Using small unmanned aerial systems in precision agriculture and crop surveillance can drastically reduce the time required walking the fields and high cost of using commercially piloted aircraft. Armed with specialized cameras that are capable of capturing specific wavelengths of infrared photos, small unmanned aerial system operators are able to see contrasting colors that indicate the overall health of crops in the field. Farmers using unmanned aerial vehicles to survey crops are reporting higher yield, reduced plant damage and lower costs. Also UAV's are being used for

Precision Viticulture ( PV ) is defined as monitoring and managing spatial variations in physical, chemical, biological variables related to productivity of vineyards.
NDVI of Vineyards - A key objective of vineyard management is to improve the return on assets by improving grape quality and block uniformity. Use NDVI to: set sample zones for petiole pressure measurement, compare time periods to see your progress, examine growth differences for underlying soil analysis, and change irrigation sets within blocks for improved efficiency and savings. Using conventional and near-infrared aerial imagery, vineyard managers can detect weak spots in the vines caused by diseases much earlier than ground based survey. More importantly, using our UAV's, vineyard owners and managers have access to real-time aerial imagery of their property whenever they want, at a fraction of the cost of conventional aerial photography. If vineyard management catches weak areas in the vines early on utilizing this aerial imagery, the property can expect an extremely favorable return on investment in a single growing season from the additional yield saved at harvest alone.
The inspection may also identify irrigation leaks, weak spots in the harvest, and a number of other interesting aspects you simply can’t see from a ground survey.
A commonly used vegetation index is NDVI which provides a general measure of vegetation vigour and biomass. NDVI is a ratio and has the advantage that an object under shadow will reflect light reduced by the same amount across the entire spectrum , thus it is not severely affected by shadows in the image.
UAV NDVI Services at $2 - $5 per Acre for NDVI and Drone Deploy services. Areas of concern need to be inspected much closer walking the fields and doing a ground verification. We do not do calibrated NDVI at this time. We are still doing research on this for future offerings.
